Living here in Arizona we get quite a bit of rain during monsoon season and since it is getting warm, we decided to have fun learning about rain and clouds. First, I collected the items needed to make the rain clouds.
- Mason Jar
- Shaving Cream
- food coloring
We took this activity outside because it got pretty messy. First, we added water to the mason jars. Next, we swirled some shaving cream on the top of the water. After, I gave the kids food coloring and let them squeeze it all over their clouds. We were a little limited on food coloring so we added a few drops to a little bit of water and dripped it over the shaving cream. It still made the cool effect of the rain falling through the clouds.
My 2 year old and 4 year old were my rain makers for this activity and although we did not go into too much detail about the absorption, rain and clouds. I still explained the basics to them about it being rain and clouds, that’s it. We will be doing this many more times this summer with all of our rain coming soon.
